EARLY DAYS

The Regent has stood as a proud cultural landmark in the heart of the Hawkesbury since it first opened its doors on July 17, 1935. Originally known as the "Regent Theatre," it debuted with the film My Heart is Calling, marking the start of an enduring legacy.

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Moore & Dyer, the theatre's distinctive Art Deco style with Spanish Mission influences set it apart as an architectural gem. The Regent Theatre was also a sister building to the iconic Parramatta Roxy, built in 1930. This striking building quickly became a beloved part of the community, offering the finest cinematic experiences of its time.

BLOCKBUSTERS

In 1995, The Regent Theatre underwent a significant transformation when it was converted into a twin cinema, adapting to the ever-changing world of film exhibition. The theatre embraced the latest digital projection technology, ensuring that moviegoers could continue to enjoy the latest blockbusters on the big screen.

Cinema 1, located downstairs, was specially designed to cater to families with small children, featuring a dedicated Crying Room for parents in need of a quiet space.

In 2021, new ownership breathed fresh life into The Regent, with an emphasis on not only preserving its historic charm but also enhancing the experience for audiences. Significant improvements were made to both its processes and aesthetics, further cementing The Regent's status as a local treasure, dedicated to showing the best of both new releases and classic films.

A NEW ERA

By 2022, The Regent expanded its offerings beyond film, bringing back live events such as comedy shows, musical performances, and stage productions. These events quickly became popular, attracting a wide range of audiences and reminding the community of the theatre's former glory.

Across 2024 and 2025, The Regent underwent another round of renovations, this time with the goal of rejuvenating the space while preserving its historic character. With a modernised interior and a renewed focus on delivering exceptional cinematic and live experiences, The Regent is ready to make a lasting impact on Western Sydney. Bigger, better, and more vibrant than ever, it is poised to continue as a beacon of entertainment and community spirit for years to come.
